VOLCANOS SURVIVE EARTHQUAKES

GAME 71

VOLCANOS----- 020221200 9
EARTHQUAKES 002203010 8

The Earthquakes come up just short of upseting the number 1 and still undefeated Volcanos in a nail biting thriller tuesday night. Although the Earthquakes never led, they tied it up twice at the end of innings 4 and 6. Samuelson, the Volcanos pitcher and the games MVP, had this to say, "I still can't believe we held 'em at the end. I was just praying that they wouldn't hit it..." Samuelson had 7 strikeouts, 1 walk, batted 2 of 5 with 2 doubles, scored 1 run, and had 2 RBI's. He also struck out the last batter in the bottom of the 9th, with the tieing run on second, to seal the victory.
The Earthquakes star of the game was Everett who batted 3 of 5 with 1 double and 2 singles, and scored 3 runs. He said in an interview after the game, "I feel disappointment from the loss, but not from how we played. We put ourselves in a position to win, but the dice just didn't roll our way. I think we proved tonight that we can compete with anybody, and it shows the apparent parody in the league. The Earthquakes always come into a game ready to rumble."
The Volcanos hit 19 of 51 with 2 triples, 3 doubles, and 14 singles. The Earthquakes had a decent showing by hitting 17 of 44 with 1 homerun, 2 triples, 1 double, and 13 singles. The Volcanos will mantain the number one ranking with an 8-0 record coming up to the midseason mark. The Earthquakes will drop to 16th place.
